Norwalk swimmers Emma Sizemore and Shae Drymon had a strong opening day at the 2022 Iowa Girls State Swimming and Diving Meet held Friday.
Competing as members of the Des Moines Lincoln team, Sizemore and Drymon matched or improved their personal-best times during individual event prelims at the Marshalltown YMCA/YWCA.
Sizemore, a sophomore, cut about one second off both of her previous PRs. She placed 19th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:22.75 and finished 21st in the 200 freestyle in 1:59.14. Both events included a field of 32 state qualifiers.
Drymon, a senior, placed 19th out of 32 swimmers in the 50-yard freestyle prelim, matching her personal-best time of 25.34 seconds from last week’s regional meet.
Sizemore and Drymon will each compete in two state meet relays today, with event finals beginning at noon. Both Norwalk girls are members of Lincoln’s 400 freestyle relay. Sizemore will also swim a leg of the 200 freestyle relay while Drymon will anchor the Rails’ 200 medley relay, which enters state with the 15th-fastest qualifying time.
