Norwalk senior Shae Drymon and sophomore Emma Sizemore helped Des Moines Lincoln improve all three of their relay times during Saturday’s finals of the Iowa Girls State Swimming and Diving Meet at Marshalltown.
Drymon swam the butterfly leg of the Rails’ 200-yard medley relay, which placed 14th out of 32 qualifiers with a time of 1:52.14. Sizemore swam the second leg of the Rails’ 200 freestyle relay, which finished 26th in 1:44.58. Drymon and Sizemore then swam the first two legs of the team’s 400 freestyle relay, which placed 19th in 3:47.33.
In each case, Lincoln improved on its qualifying seed and time from the regional meet in Fort Dodge one week earlier. The biggest improvement came in the 400 relay, which cut nearly four full seconds.
As previously reported, the two Norwalk swimmers also competed in three individual state swimming events on Friday. Sizemore finished 19th in the 500 freestyle and 21st in the 200 freestyle, both with personal-best times. Drymon took 19th in the 50 freestyle, matching her personal best.
Drymon and Sizemore were among seven Norwalk student-athletes competing for the Des Moines Lincoln girls swim team this fall.
