It will be a landmark moment for Norwalk Community athletics today when the Warrior girls wrestling program makes its debut in a meet at Ballard.
Little Hawkeye Conference rivals Indianola and Pella will also be part of the field as competition gets underway at 5:30 p.m.
Alanah Vetterick, a 2018 Norwalk graduate, will serve as the school’s first-ever girls head wrestling coach and direct the program in grades 7-12. Vetterick wrestled collegiately at Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska, where she earned NAIA All-American honors.
The 2022-2023 school year marks the inaugural season of girls wrestling in Iowa as it becomes the 11th sanctioned sport of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.
Norwalk will also wrestle at the Nevada Tournament on Saturday before hosting the school’s first girls wrestling meet on Tuesday night.
