Four Simpson Storm winter sports teams were in action Wednesday.

The Storm men’s wrestling program dominated Iowa Wesleyan 40-12, getting wins by fall from Dylan McChesney at 125lbs, Kanin Hable at 133lbs, Shyler Langley at 174lbs, and Colton Kinnison at heavyweight. They next wrestle Saturday in the Coe open.

The Storm women’s wrestling team fell to Iowa Wesleyan 31-8 on their home mats. Simpson earned wins from Jenna Joseph at 170lbs, and Kyla Revels at 191lbs. They will next wrestle in the Lindenwood Duals in St. Charles Missouri on Sunday.

The Storm men’s basketball stayed unbeaten on the season, taking down Cornell 74-66. The Storm outlasted Cornell throughout the contest, going ahead 35-30 at halftime and outscoring the Rams 39-36 in the second half. Easton Darling had 24 points to lead the way, while Andrew Gibb had 23. The Storm are now 4-0 to start the season, and will begin American Rivers Conference play next Tuesday hosting Loras.

The Storm women’s basketball fell in a close contest with Gustavus on the road 76-73, just falling short of a furious comeback attempt. The Storm were outscored in the first quarter 19-9, but cut the deficit to five at halftime 29-24. The Storm battled back several times, but couldn’t get over the hump to win it. Anna Wanek scored 16 to lead the team. Simpson is now 1-2 to start the season, and will take on Wisconsin-Superior on Saturday.
