To avoid food borne illnesses at Thanksgiving there are a few keys to staying healthy according to Judi Van Hulzen, a nurse at Marion County Public Health.

The tips are for stuffing and cooking the turkey. Van Hulzen tells KNIA/KRLS News a few of the tips are, “Cook your turkey to an internal temp of 165 degrees. Check it at the thigh, the wing joint and the thickest part of the breast. If you stuff your turkey, the best practice is, cook the stuffing separate from the turkey.”

The stuffing needs to be cooked at 165 degrees, same as the turkey. Side effects if you get a food borne illness can cause diarrhea, nausea and vomiting the next day,
