Five players from Indianola, two from Norwalk and one from Southeast Warren were named to the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association and Iowa Football Coaches Association’s 2022 All-State Football teams earlier this week.

Indianola, which finished 7-4 overall and reached the quarterfinal round of the Class 4A playoffs for the second straight year, had two first-team selections in senior wide receiver Drew Kingery and junior defensive lineman Wyatt DeWitt. Kingery wrapped up a stellar career by leading Class 4A with 1,172 receiving yards and 15 touchdown catches. He also ranked second with 61 receptions and threw a 35-yard TD pass for good measure. DeWitt paced the Indian defense with 14.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks while also recovering a fumble.

Indianola’s second-team all-staters include seniors Ray Liventals (offensive line), Bennett Brueck (utility), and Johnny Menke (linebacker). Liventals finished the year with 34.5 total tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and three sacks. Menke led the team with 68.5 total tackles, including 5.5 TFL and 2.5 sacks.

Norwalk had a pair of Class 4A first-team selections in senior wide receiver Dillon Ranck and senior defensive lineman Maddux Borcherding-Johnson. The Warriors went 5-4 overall and placed fourth in a tough District 5 at 2-3.

Ranck finished his career as Norwalk’s all-time leading receiver with 1,771 yards and also set a single-game school record with 219 receiving yards against Carlisle, when he hauled in four of his 13 touchdown catches on the year. He ended the season with 54 receptions for 903 yards. Borcherding-Johnson, who will play college football at Iowa, took on numerous double-teams throughout the year while still finishing with 32.5 total tackles, seven tackles for loss and two sacks.

Also honored this week was Southeast Warren junior Tate Dierking, who made the 8-Player all-state list as a second team offensive lineman. Dierking also played defense and had 27.5 total tackles, 10.5 TFL and three sacks, helping the Warhawks win a district title and finish 9-2 overall following a second round playoff defeat.
