The 2022 All-State Football Teams were announced earlier this week by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association and the Iowa Football Coaches Association, and Pella Christian and PCM had a combined six athletes honored. This year, only two teams per class were chosen.
Pella Christian had four players that received all-state recognition in Class 1A, with all four being seniors that were First-Team selections. Peyton Ritzert was a first team selection at defensive back after racking up 46 tackles including 40 solos, seven tackles for loss, and a team-high three interceptions.
Jack Fancher was selected as the First-Team kicker. In addition to tying the school record with a 47-yard field goal, Fancher went 4 for 5 on field goal tries which was tied for the second most in Class 1A. He also made the fifth most extra points in 1A, converting on 49 out of 50 attempts. Fancher also booted the third most touchbacks in the class with 21.
Isaac Kacmarynski was selected to the 1A First-Team as a defensive utility player. Kacmarynski was eighth in 1A in tackles with 83 and had 67 solos, which was the sixth most. He also recorded two interceptions, both of which he returned for touchdowns, and was tied for the most defensive scores in the class.
Rounding out the First-Team selections for Pella Christian was offensive lineman Tobey Steen. Steen, the Eagles right tackle, helped propel the Pella Christian offense to the third best ground attack in 1A this season. The Eagles rushed for 3,021 yards and 49 touchdowns.
PCM had two Class 2A All-State honorees, with both being seniors chosen as Second-Team selections. Donovan Nicholson was chosen as a Second-Team defensive lineman after accumulating team highs in tackles with 45.5, solo tackles with 40, and tackles for loss with 10.
