Wednesday morning shortly after 7 a.m., the Knoxville Fire Department was dispatched to an apartment fire in the 1800 block of Dolores Street. Four residents were transported to Knoxville Hospital to be evaluated for smoke inhalation.
Departments arrived to find heavy smoke throughout all floors of the apartment building. All residents of the apartment were evacuated, according to Knoxville Fire Chief Cal Wyman.
Once evacuation was completed, ladder crews started to ventilate the building of smoke. The fire was extinguished and overhaul was completed. The fire is under investigation by fire investigators from the Knoxville Fire Department and Knoxville Police Department.
The Knoxville Fire Department was assisted on scene by Knoxville Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County EMA, and Pella EMS. Departments were on the scene nearly two hours.
The Knoxville Fire Department thanks DeYarman Automotive and Marion County Public Health for allowing residents displaced from the apartment building to utilize their facilities to stay warm. Red Cross was also contacted to assist residents of the apartment building requiring assistance.
