It will be a tough opening test for the Indianola boys and girls basketball teams to begin their Little Hawkeye Conference seasons tonight, as they welcome Newton to Indianola High School. The Indians boys are coming off of a close opening win against Southeast Polk 75-71, where they were led by three players in double figures and eight players scoring in the contest.
The #10 Indians girls had a tough time scoring against the Rams in their home opener where they dropped their first contest of the season, and will look to rebound against a Newton team that is 1-0 to start their season.
Head coach Jeff Janssen tells KNIA Sports he expects many teams to play zone against the Indians, and they need to do better in some other fundamentals.
“I want to see us make some strides in what we can assume will be a zone defense against us all season, and then rebounding and taking care of the basketball have to be two big emphasis for us.”
The game can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA and watched live on Indianola Activities YouTube, with pregame starting at 6pm and tip-off at 6:15pm.
