Trojans ride 24 point effort by DeMan for win over Madrid

The Pleasantville Trojans traveled to Madrid Tuesday evening and when the final horn sounded the PHS squad had themselves a 52-41 win over the Tigers in West Central Activities Conference play.

Trojan coach Jeff Cook tells KNIA/KRLS Sports, “We really controlled the game more than the score shows, but they hit some threes to keep them closer.”

Hope DeMan led Pleasantville in scoring by hitting for 24 points. Next in the scoring column was Joelle Johnnson with 16 points. Azell Smith and Addi Van Ness each notched six points for PHS in the win.

The Trojans improved to 4-2 overall and to 1-1 in league play. Madrid fell to 1-3 with the home loss. Pleasantville held quarter leads of 10-3, 26-17 and 42-27.

Pleasantville will be back in action Friday night at home when they face the Van Meter Bulldogs in a girl-boy basketball doubleheader at home starting at 6:15 p.m.

Varsity Boys Trojans fall

In the varsity boys game the Trojans lost to  the Tigers 50 to 36.The Tigers were up two points at intermission 22-20. The Madrid defense stiffened in the second half as the Trojans were held to 16 points in half number two while the Tigers added 28 points.

In the third quarter Madrid raced to a 36-25 advantage. Madrid improved to 2-1 overall with the victory while the Trojans fell to 1-2 and 0-2 in the league.

Dayson Leerhoff had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Pleasantville.

Up next are the Van Meter Bulldogs who enter Friday’s contest at 2-0.
