Two Pella Christian seniors signed their National Letters of Intent Friday to continue their academic and athletic careers at different colleges next school year.
Eagles cross country runner Kaden Van Wyngarden signed his letter of intent to join the cross country program at Dordt University, while baseball player Corbin Westerkamp signed his letter of intent to play at Cornerstone University.
Van Wyngarden wrapped up his senior cross country season on Eagle Lane with an All-State performance at the State Cross Country Meet in Fort Dodge October 28th, coming in eighth place. The senior was ranked as an individual for much of the season, holding individual rankings of 12th, 14th, and 17th. The senior also broke the school record for the fastest 5k time, that was set in 2010, at the Centerville Cross Country Invitational on October 4th with a time of 16:10.
Westerkamp was one of Pella Christian top players on the baseball diamond as a junior last season. At the plate, the Eagles catcher led the team in doubles (7) and triples (3), was second in slugging percentage (0.553), and was third in batting average (.329) and on-base percentage (.402). Westerkamp also went 1-1 on the mound in three pitching starts for Pella Christian and finished with the team’s second best earned run average (2.52) and opponent batting average (.172).
