The PCM and North Mahaska girls were locked in a defensive struggle through the opening three quarters of the game. The offenses finally got going in the fourth quarter as the Mustangs and Warhawks combined for 43 points in the period, but it was North Mahaska that won the quarter 25-18 to take the game. Tori Lindsay also reached double-figure scoring for the Mustangs with 10 points.
In the nightcap of the doubleheader, the Warhawks took control of the game early and never looked back against the PCM boys. North Mahaska shot 50% from the field in the first half, building up a 23-10 lead by the end of the first quarter, and pushing their advantage to 44-24 at the intermission. The PCM girls fell to 4-3 overall while the Mustangs boys dropped to 2-4 overall and both teams won’t have to wait long to get back on track, as they travel to Perry tonight for a Heart of Iowa Conference doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m.
