Fairfield makes the trip to Pella tonight for a non-conference basketball doubleheader against the Dutch.

The Pella girls come in at 3-2 overall and will take on a Trojan squad that is 0-5 and looking for it’s first victory over the green-and-white in the Bound era, as the Dutch have won all 12 meetings since 2007.

Pella’s boys have also faired well against Fairfield historically, winning 12 of the last 13 matchups. The Trojans are 2-2, while the Dutch are 3-1. Derek Schulte’s squad is allowing just 46 points per game after a suffocating 24 point defensive effort against Grinnell last Friday, but the offense has yet to really get going, averaging 59 points per game.

“Hopefully we’ll start trending upwards in that area, but it’s no secret that Pella basketball has to lead with defense. Where we have to improve is that our offensive production will get better when we start turning the ball over less, which will lead to more shot opportunities.”

The Dutch are averaging more than 15 turnovers per game, and Schulte says that should be between 10 and 12 at this point of the season.

Tonight’s doubleheader tips off at 6:00 at Pella High School. Join Trevor Castle and Brian Vande Lune for all of the action, beginning with pregame at 5:45, on 92.1 KRLS and the Pella Dutch Live YouTube channel.
