The Pella Christian girls basketball team opened the season with several difficult matchups and have gone 1-4 through this tough five-game stretch.

Through their first five games this year, the Eagles have struggled to find consistency on the offensive end of the floor. Pella Christian has shot just 29% from the field so far this season and only 23% from three-point range. While solid defenses have contributed to the Eagles struggles this season, head coach Jordan Dyk believes that his team’s aggressive defensive scheme has played a factor in shots not falling.

“I think we’ve got shooters on our team, and I don’t think we’ve shot at that well late (in games) and I think it’s part of legs getting tired. You know, we’re trying to play an aggressive man style and then also play some trapping zone. Well people are running around and flying all over the place, their legs get tired, and the shots don’t go in. So, we make some shots, we can win a game. You talk about making shots, win the rebound battle and take care of the ball, you’re going to be competitive and win the basketball game.”

The Eagles hope to get the offense rolling against another tough opponent on Friday when they travel to Grinnell for a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader.
