After emergency crews and snowplows found themselves busy with icy roads even as less than two inches of snow fell across south central Iowa Thursday, breezy conditions may impact those who have further plans over the next few days.

According to the National Weather Service, winds between 20-30 MPH may push around snow in areas where heavier amounts fell yesterday, and will primarily impact those to the north of I-80 today. Wind chills will drop into the single digits frequently between now and Sunday as well.

A burst of arctic air descends into the region next week which will send temperatures plummeting. Bitter cold wind chills of -10 to -20 or colder are likely at times. Chances for snow move through Monday and Wednesday, although probable coverage and amounts remain uncertain at this time. Those with early holiday travel plans should pack a winter safety kit and remain aware of weather forecasts and the potential for hazardous wintry driving conditions.
