Knoxville High School wrestling team announced that it would not be participating in a meet at Roland-Story High School Saturday. Instead, Knoxville will be going to wrestle in the Iowa City Regina Invitational at Iowa City Regina High School.

The decision comes amid a controversy surrounding a Roland-Story wrestler. The school’s handling of Kade Blume has been scrutinized by some. Recently, a school board member resigned citing a lack of punishment for Blume.

Story County investigators say that earlier this year, Blume stripped the clothes off of the victim. He then allegedly assaulted the victim with a pencil.

Knoxville High School Athletic Director, Ryan Paulsen, made the decision to take Knoxville out of the meet at Roland-Story Wednesday night.

The wrestler pleaded guilty in juvenile court to assault.

Roland-Story School District sent out a statement that reads, “We are disappointed to hear that Knoxville High School will not be participating in our tournament this weekend. The school reportedly made this decision out of concern that one of our student-athletes would be competing in the tournament. We want our community to know that the wrestler in question will not be competing in this weekend’s tournament at Roland-Story. Our district has attempted to reach out to the Knoxville Community School District to clarify this matter, but has not received a response.”
