On Hall of Fame Induction Night, the Knoxville Basketball Squads made sure many of the former Panthers got treated to two wins as the Panther girls after a close back-and-forth game went on a late 18-0 run to slam the door shut on Centerville 58-49 while the boys ran the Big Reds out of the gym in a 72-38 win heard live on kniakrls.com KNIA3. The girls were not able to get their footing with Centerville’s one/three/one defense for most of the game. But a foul called on Centerville, that resulted in a technical foul on the Centerville bench, followed by a flagrant foul on the Redettes, along with two Anna Buttell three point splashdowns…turned a three point game into a 14 points Panther lead. Coach Matt Ritchhart told KNIA/KRLS Sports Buttell’s shots were falling which allowed his team to pull away.
Ritchhart: “At halftime the coaches and I were talking. Anna Buttell is going to make one, and once she sees one go in, they’re all going in so she really came up big with 8 points in the 4th quarter.”
The Dunkin Sisters held top scoring honors with Emma getting 19 and Hannah scoring 15. The boys held an 11 point lead at the halftime break, and quickly left no doubt who was the better team in the first half outscoring the Big Reds 37-13 in half number two. Knoxville upped the lead to 18 almost immediately then before anyone could blink, running clock was enacted. Carson Uitermarkt led the Panthers with 17 points, Noah Keefer scored 11 and Gabe Clarke appeared to break out of his season opening slump with ten points. The Knoxville girls are 5-1 and 4-1 in the South Central Conference and will host Pella for the Red Rock Rivalry on Tuesday while the boys finished the pre-Christmas portion of the schedule at 5-1 and 5-0 in the conference.
