The cold of winter brings with it an increased risk of house fires. According to the Red Cross, home fires are more likely to start in the kitchen than any other room in the home. The second leading cause of home fires are heating sources like wood stoves, and fireplaces. Warren County Health Services Director Dr. Joelle Stolte tells KNIA News tips this holiday season.

“Don’t leave fireplaces, space heaters, food cooking on stoves, or candles unattended. It’s also important to have an emergency plan in place for your family, and to make sure everyone knows it and to practice it when you can.”

Fires caused by smoking are the leading cause of deaths.
