The PCM Basketball teams played their final Heart of Iowa Conference doubleheader of 2022 at Roland-Story Tuesday night and were swept, the girls falling 57-52 and the boys 64-39, as heard live on KNIAKRLS.com.

 The Mustangs’ girls basketball team took the early lead on Class 3A’s #14 ranked Norseman, ending the first quarter with a 9-8 advantage. Roland-Story edged PCM in the second quarter to lead 23-21 at halftime, before extending the lead to 40-31 heading into the final period. PCM clawed back to pull within one point late in the fourth quarter, but Roland-Story would knock down their free throws late to knock off the Mustangs. Tori Lindsay led the way offensively with 13 points, while Addison Steenhoek and Madie Reed weren’t far behind with 12 points each.

In the nightcap of the doubleheader, the PCM boys hung tight with Class 2A’s #3 ranked Roland-Story. The Mustangs trailed just 15-12 at the end of the first quarter, 25-15 at halftime, and 42-33 heading into the final period. The fourth quarter was all Norseman, as they ended the game on 22-6 run to pull away for the win. Grant Van Veen was the top scorer for PCM with 13 points and and Jacob Wendt added 11 points.

The Mustangs’ girls basketball team enters Christmas break with a 5-5 overall record and 3-3 conference mark, while the boys are 3-6 overall and 2-4 in the league. Both the PCM basketball teams return to action on Thursday, January 5th, 2023 at Montezuma.
