The Pella City Council finalized a construction contract for repairs to the Bos Landen Conference Center at their meeting Tuesday evening.

A contract for $1.07 million was awarded to Hooyer Construction, with the City of Pella’s share coming in at $65,700 after insurance.

The Pella City Council also held a pair of public hearings to consider bids for the annual sewer cleaning and inspection program and to rezone property located along Hempstead Drive from agricultural to rural residential. A contract for sewer cleaning was awarded to Visu-Sewer for approximately $550,000, and the rezoning request was continued to a future meeting.

The council also scheduled a public hearing for vacation of public right-of-way for a portion of Hazel Street for January 17th, and accepted public improvements for both the Pella Municipal Airport apron expansion and improvements to the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Following regular business, the Pella City Council held an extensive discussion about out-of-town agreements for Pella Community Ambulance service. Many representatives living outside of the city limits were in attendance, and discussed the challenges they may face to fulfill the requests to help fund and offset losses for the ambulance service for calls they may make to nearby townships and communities. No formal action was taken, and more will be shared from this portion of the meeting for Thursday’s local news on KNIA/KRLS.
