Earlier this month the Marion County Humane Society had an illness in the kittens that were at the shelter. The Humane Society had to stop all cat adoptions. After tests were taken it was discovered that many of the kittens had calicivirus.

All of the kittens have been vaccinated and adoptions continued for the cats beginning Monday according to Leslie VanderLinden, Board President of the Marion County Humane Society.

VanderLinden tells KNIA/KRLS News what was discovered after medical tests took place at the facility, “It was a virus that affected the upper respiratory system of some kittens. It did not affect any of the cats that we had.”

Dogs at the shelter were not affected. The Humane Society will continue the $20 sale  price through the end of 2022 for cats at the shelter.
