Following a 50-42 setback at Newton Tuesday night, the Pella Christian boys basketball team will look to play with more control in their upcoming games.
Entering Tuesday, the Eagles were averaging 11.4 turnovers per contest, and hit that mark against the Cardinals with an unofficial 11 turnovers. In Pella Christian’s three losses this winter, that number climbs up to 13 turnovers per game. In addition to the turnovers, Pella Christian has struggled to knocked down shots on a consistent basis. With a tough stretch ahead, Eagles head coach J.D. Boer knows his team needs to play with more control and says that doing the little things better will help turn things around.
“Part of it is just continuing to stick together in those spots. You know, rebounding is a big part of that. If you can get some rebounds, it just kind of slows yourself down a little bit. Especially, on the defensive end, you just gotta make sure you get them. It helps little bit when the ball goes through the net, and it just continues to feel like we’re getting good looks and we’re just not able to convert them when we really need to. So, we’ll stay with it. You know, I like our guys. I’ve got a lot of belief in what we’re going to be able to do. I think there’s better basketball ahead.”
Pella Christian hopes to make the necessary adjustments ahead of the first of two meetings with cross-town rival Pella on Friday.
