The Knoxville and Pella Christian basketball squads will step out of their respective conferences to play each other on Monday night. The Panther girls will come in at 6-3 on the season after a hard fought win over Albia on Friday night where the Panthers did not shoot well but made plays down the stretch to get the win. Pella Christian has had a rough start to the season and are now dealing with injuries but Coach Jordan Dyk says they will go into Monday’s game thankful to be playing and spending time competing for a win.
Dyk: “The fun part about it is, you can’t fret about it. Embrace the moment and opportunity. It’s a blessing to be together, it’ll be fun just to go on the road and be together, so that’s exciting for us.”
The Eagles will come in 1-9 on the season, but Panthers Coach Matt Ritchhart says that record is very deceiving due to the fact PC plays in the Little Hawkeye Conference. On the boys side, it will be two teams coming off emotional wins as Knoxville took down Albia 55-51 on Friday, and Pella Christian took down cross-town rival Pella on Friday, stopping a five game losing streak to the Dutch. Knoxville Coach Troy Pearson knew this summer he would have his hands full going against the Eagles.
Pearson: “We saw some of their kids this summer, they have a point guard that’s really good, and even if you’re 500 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, you’re a good team. That’s what’s fun about this like Eddyville because if you don’t play well, you won’t win.”
You can hear the call on both KNIA and KRLS starting with the pregame at 6:00.
