The Knoxville basketball Squads swept Cardinal on Tuesday night, but it was not as easy as it was the first time around. The girls won 62-51, and the boys ran away in the 4th quarter from a close game 84-50 both games heard live on 95.3 KNIA. The girls had trouble stopping Cardinal’s outside shooting and inside game, but the Panthers had something that the Comets did not, and that was Hannah Dunkin as she lit up Cardinal for 25 points, leading the Panthers to the win. Coach Matt Ritchhart told KNIA/KRLS Sports the defensive scheme has worked the past two games with changing up defenses and keeping the Cardinal off balance in the 2nd half. The Knoxville Boys had control for most of the night, but could not shake Cardinal until the 4th quarter when the Panthers blitzed the Comets 33-12 to run away and hide for the win. Landen Norris did whatever he wanted getting 24 points as it was his turn to shine. Panthers post player Kaiden Smith told KNIA/KRLS Sports the unselfishness of the team is what is key in the win.
Smith: “That’s what Pearson said in the locker room, he loves our unselfishness, that we can give up the ball like the JV guys and it really shows.”
Carson Uitermarkt dropped in 15 points, all on three point shots, and Noah Keefer put in 13 points to put three Panthers in double figures. The girls are now 8-3 on the season and 6-2 in the South Central Conference, while the boys are 8-2 on the season and stay perfect in the conference at 8-0. The Panthers will hit the road to Clarke on Friday.
