The Marion County Board of Supervisors consider the budget for the upcoming fiscal year Tuesday.

Among the items on the agenda was the Marion County Librarians FY 2024 funding request, which was pushed back to the next meeting January 24th, and the FY 2024  Marion County Compensation Board minutes and recommendations, which were received and filed.

The board heard an update on Pleasantville’s Adkins Development Project. Two of the six parcels are spoken for, according to Pleasantville City Administrator Joe Mrstik. There was a discussion on authorizing an Application to the U.S. Department of Treasury for Local Assistance and Tribal Consistency Funds. If approved, there would be $50,000 for the county to use this year as well as $50,000 for next year.

The Marion County FY 2024 budget was discussed. At a previous board meeting, supervisor Mark Raymie made a proposal to look at, and at this meeting, board chair Kisha Jahner had a proposal on the budget. Both proposals are fairly close on levels.

A proposed budget timeline was approved. Moving forward, department heads need to get budgets to the Marion County Auditor by January 13th. The Auditor will enter proposals for the board of supervisors from Jan.17th through the 20th. The budget timeline proposed will be from January 24th through the 27th.

The target date on the budget is February 13th while the final approval due to the state of Iowa March is 31st.
