The Twin Cedars Basketball Squads are playing Southeast Warren tonight in a varsity double header. The girls come in at 8-3 this season after a win over Diagonal on Tuesday. While Kisha Reed may be getting most of the rebounding spotlight for the Sabers, and for good reason as she had gobbled up 137 this season, Sophomore Cristen Durian has come on in recent games to get 78 for the season, good for 10th in the Bluegrass Conference. Coach Theresa Davis tells KNIA/KRLS Sports Durian is rounding out into a rebounding force, and knows the offensive side of her game will eventually come around.

Davis: “It’s not always about the shooting with her 16 rebounds. She’s strong and not afraid to get in there, so we need to have that too.”

The Sabers will face a Southeast Warren squad that is 2-9, but those two wins are over Mormon Trail and Moulton-Udell, from the Bluegrass Conference. The Saber boys are still trying to gel as a team. Of the normal starting five, two are freshmen, and two more are seniors that have very limited varsity time. Coach Mateo Varese says while he is aware of the inexperience, that is quickly no longer an excuse as the season wears on.

Varese: “I think they’ll get it, it’s still a lot of learning, and those seniors have only played varsity level just last year, so it’s just getting those guys better prepared for the games.”

Southeast Warren is having a solid season at 7-3 and have won its last four games including an 81-43 romp over East Union last Friday.
