The biggest natural disaster that affected Warren County residents and Warren County Emergency Management over the year of 2022 was the tornado that went through Norwalk in March. Emergency Management Coordinator Troy Bass tells KNIA News the tornado originated in Madison County to the west, went through the northern part of Warren County affecting mainly the rural areas and Norwalk, and eventually made it to Jasper County before diminishing. Bass said the damage was mainly to Norwalk businesses, and could have been much worse.
“We really were lucky. If that storm system was not where it was, maybe a quarter mile north of where it was, it would have done a lot more damage in Norwalk. Norwalk schools and a lot of homes in the area would have had a lot more significant damage.”
