After trying a record high temperature and a few rumbles of thunder Monday, a potential winter storm could impact many in central Iowa starting late Wednesday.
The high of 57 recorded in Knoxville matches the county high mark for January 16th, set in 1996. Area rainfall totals:
Pella – .45”
Knoxville – .13”
Lake Red Rock – .23”
Indianola – .06”
According to the National Weather Service, the northwest two-thirds of Iowa is expected to receive heavy snow by Thursday morning. Locally, the amounts will be dictated by when the air temperature cools enough for winter precipitation — travel will likely be hazardous regardless due to previous rainfall refreezing on pavement and the potential of sleet.
