Steve Mitchell, with the Knoxville airport board, tells KNIA/KRLS News that the Knoxville airport commission interviewed interested parties in replacing Dan Van Donselaar as manager of the Knoxville Airport. On Saturday morning the commission voted to offer the position to Katherine Shawver. Katherine and her husband, Kyle are residents of Marion County. Both are commercial pilots and have extensive experience in the aviation industry.
According to Mitchell, the commission would like to thank Van Donselaar for his years of dedication and service to the Knoxville community. The Knoxville airport is a tremendous economic asset to the city and surrounding area and has experienced much growth in the last two decades.
Through the years, the commission has enjoyed a good working relationship with the city and appreciates the support the community provides. The commission welcomes Katherine and Kyle as they begin the transition. They are expected to take over on March 1.
Van Donselaar was the Manager of the Knoxville Airport for 22 years. He is working with a local aviation company to purchase Knoxville Aviation. Van Donselaar’s resignation will be effective March 1, as he has accepted a new position with a private aviation company.
He will assist the new owners of Knoxville Aviation in the transition of customers and maintenance of current services, through the year in a part-time role.
