The Pella Christian girls basketball team was unable to sustain their great start Friday night in a 53-43 loss to Oskaloosa, while the boys team completed their season sweep of the Indians with a 54-37 victory, with both games heard live on KNIAKRLS.com.
The Eagles girls squad grabbed the momentum early over Oskaloosa, leading by as much as seven points in the opening period before ending the first quarter with a 19-18 lead. Things quickly turned south for the Pella Christian offense as they score just 2 second quarter points and eight third quarter points, allowing Oskaloosa to claim a 27-21 lead at halftime and a 41-31 advantage heading into the final quarter. The Eagles were able to outscore the Indians in the final quarter 14-12, but it wasn’t enough as they fell to 2-13 overall and 0-8 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. Karlie Anderson was the lone player for P.C. to reach double digits in scoring with 10 points, while Anna Eveland, Chloe Huisman, and Faith Kacmarynski all added 8 points apiece.
In the nightcap of the doubleheader, the Pella Christian boys lead wire-to-wire over Oskaloosa. The Eagles used a balanced offensive attack to lead the Indians 16-5 after the first period, and 31-15 at the intermission. Pella Christian narrowly outscored Oskaloosa 23-22 in the second half to grab the win and improve their record to 9-4 overall and 5-3 in the league. Eight different Eagles cracked the scoreboard in the contest, with Lincoln Vander Molen and Isaiah Breems leading the way with 15 and 10 points respectively.
The Pella Christian basketball teams get the weekend off, before returning to Eagle Lane Monday for a non-conference doubleheader against Des Moines Christian that can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
