Teaching school at the elementary level can be challenging. Northstar Principal John Keitges told KNIA/KRLS News one of the ways his school motivates students is through PBIS.
Keitges added, “PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention and Support. What that means is, like adults, not many people work for free and so you do things for positive rewards.”
PBIS helps create a culture of expectations. At Northstar it is called “Do Your Panther Best.”
Keitges said they ask everyone who enters the building to be Safe, Respectful and Responsible. If students do that they are doing their Panther Best. It’s taught and told to each student.
If Panther Best is observed tickets are given out for rewarding good behavior skills to be used in the Panther Store.
