The Central College men’s and women’s cross country teams each extended their streaks in receiving USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors this year.
Individually on the men’s squad, Noah Jorgenson (junior, Sidney) was honored for the second time as an All-Academic Athlete along with Derek Webster (sophomore, Norwalk). On the women’s squad, Caroline McMartin (sophomore, Pella) was named for the second time and was joined by Addison Parrott (sophomore, Danville).
The women’s team posted a lofty 3.56 combined grade point average to gain all-academic honors for the 13th straight year and the 16th time overall. The Dutch men were also cited for the eighth time in nine years and fifth year in a row with a 3.14 GPA. Teams are recognized by compiling a cumulative GPA of 3.10 or greater and competing in at least five different varsity competitions with at least five runners representing their school at each meet.
Individual student-athletes must compile a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or greater on a 4.0 scale and finish among the top 25 percent of finishers at their respective regional championships.
Jorgenson has a 3.98 GPA with a business management major and placed eighth at the NCAA Division III Midwest Region Championships Nov. 12 at Geneva, Illinois while Webster has a 3.88 GPA with a chemistry major and finished 52nd at the regional.
McMartin has a 4.00 GPA with a biology major and placed 11th at the regional while Parrott has a 3.84 GPA with a psychology major.
Jorgenson and McMartin both advanced to the Division III national meet as well, with McMartin gaining all-America distinction by finishing 24th.
There were 383 women from 137 schools cited in 2022 for individual awards and 212 programs received team honors. In the men’s division, 320 athletes from 119 schools were recognized and 189 institutions received the team award.
