The Marion County Board of Supervisors lowered the tax levy by 20 cents at their Friday meeting.

Supervisor Mark Raymie tells KNIA/KRLS News what that means, “I’m very excited that the county operations are sound and fiscally healthy so we can reduce the levy rate by 20 cents. It reflects the fiscal health of the county.”

The levy is the lowest it has been in 10 years.

Friday marked the third day of budget proposals for county offices. Groups that presented budgets Friday included Veteran Affairs, Conservation, Human Resources, Emergency Management and the Auditor.

Steve Edwards represented Conservation and noted that his department would generate 40 percent of the revenue for his department.

The five public libraries in Marion County, Knoxville, Pella, Pleasantville, Melcher-Dallas and Bussey were approved for their budgets, with Pleasantville to receive the same funding as a year ago, $15,000, Melcher-Dallas and Bussey are $5,000 with a matrix set-up to distribute the rest of the $70,000 of the $95,000 that was approved.
