Tomorrow is the first annual George Washington Carver Day in the State of Iowa. Governor Kim Reynolds declared in June that every February 1st would celebrate the famed humanitarian, who spent time at Simpson college after being rejected from other institutions in the midwest because of the color of his skin.

Simpson College and the Indianola Community is celebrating with a tour of Carver-related sites that includes a “Circle Back in Time Tour” with guides along the downtown Indianola square providing history from when Carver arrived in Indianola, the Carver Museum at the Warren County Historical Society along with a presentation, and a reception in the Amy Robertson Music Center Lobby on the Simpson College campus, in addition to performances and self-guided tours.
