Competing in their final Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader of the season, the Pella Christian and Indianola basketball teams meet on Eagle Lane tonight.
Both the Eagles and Indians girls are looking for bounce back games this evening, as both teams dropped their contests earlier in the week. Class 4A #15 ranked Indianola fell to #8 ranked Pella 53-50 Tuesday, while Pella Christian struggled in a 49-17 loss against #1 ranked Dallas Center-Grimes. Indians head girls basketball coach Jeff Janssen tells KNIA Sports despite losing their last three games to ranked opponents, the Indians feel good about heading into postseason and will try to get some momentum tonight.
“A team that plays with this kind of heart, and a team that plays and communicates with each other when things are good or when things are bad, I couldn’t be happier with this group. We are going to play hard and give everyone our best shot.”
The Class 4A #5 ranked Indian boys clinched the Little Hawkeye Conference title outright Tuesday night with a 79-68 win over Pella, while the Eagle boys were dominated by Dallas Center-Grimes in a 66-34 loss. Following a disappointing showing against the Mustangs just two days ago, Pella Christian head coach J.D. Boer says his team has to get their mindset right for another ranked team tonight.
“The reality is that we just gotta figure out how we’re gonna get guys to compete. You know, as far as tactically there’s certainly some things that we need to do better, but there’s some effort things that are lacking. You know, our rebounding tonight (Tuesday) was really, really, really poor and Indianola is gonna be crashing the glass, too. Why wouldn’t they? Of course they are, right. That’s a really good basketball team. So, it’s gonna be more about getting our mindset in the right place to be competitive and we’ll see what we can do about that.”
Coverage of tonight’s doubleheader can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS, 94.3 KNIA, and on the Pella Christian YouTube channel beginning with pregame coverage at 5:45 p.m.
