The Marion County United Way program has been helping nonprofit organizations with funding for the past 51 years. The local United Way is a group of volunteers who raise funds to help groups meet their financial needs. There are currently 10 people on the board and an executive secretary.

David Dettmann, one of the local United Way board members, tells KNIA/KRLS News, “We are a 5013c non-profit organization, which I describe as an umbrella. We focus on three areas of need for the residents of Marion County. Those are health, education and social services, which includes financial needs.”

Agencies make requests for funding every year. Dettmann added the group raises money to meet the demands the best they can. The goal this year for the Marion County United Way is $60,000. The group is in the early stages of the campaign for 2023, which runs through September. Dettmann said they are roughly one-third of the way to the fundraising goal.

Anyone wanting to help can send money to Marion County United Way, PO Box 577, in Knoxville.
