The Indianola City Council approved the site plan for The Village expansion at their meeting Monday, after having the public hearing for the site plan stay open for several weeks to continue a dialogue with The Village and the residents of the area in addition to the city government. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News by keeping the hearing open, The Village was able to listen to and help alleviate concerns from the public.

“This is a great example of good government and listening to the people. The reason the public hearing was kept open was some of the residents in the area had some questions and concerns with the initial proposal. They brought those concerns to the table at the planning commission level. The planning commissioners and developers really listened and took those comments into heart, they redesigned and took those issues into consideration, and I think the overall product is a better one for the community, a better one for the developer, and a better one for the city.”

The Village announced plans for a $36 million expansion to their facility located at 1203 North E Street.
