The Simpson women’s basketball team has now won three games in a row and five of their last seven with a dominating 79-67 victory over Dubuque Saturday, while the men struggled to score in a 75-58 defeat as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Storm women had a slow, back-and-forth start with the Spartans, trailing 18-17 after the first, and then only managed two points in the first five minutes of the second quarter as they trailed 28-19. From that point on however, it was all Storm as they ended the half on a 15-0 run to lead 34-28, and extended the run to eventually 20-0 as they ballooned the lead to 17 early in the fourth. The Spartans fought back, but the deficit was far too great. Dylan Holland had 19 off the bench, Cassie Nash scored 19, and Haley Rasmussen scored 18.

The Storm men were also back and forth with the Spartans, hanging with the high-powered squad throughout much of the first half. However a late 12-0 run put Simpson down for good as Dubuque eventually built a 44-24 halftime lead. Simpson fought back and held the Spartans to just 31 second half points to give them a chance, but never got the lead lower than 12 due to shooting just 34.3% from the field.

The Storm women are now 13-10 overall and 8-6 in the American Rivers Conference, and currently occupy the fourth seed in the standings. The men are 12-10 and 5-9, and are in a three-way tie with Coe and Luther for the final spot in the postseason tournament. Both teams make the trip to Nebraska Wesleyan on Wednesday.
