The State of Iowa has approved a three percent increase in supplemental aid for the next school year. With inflation up over eight percent it will be more difficult for schools to keep up without making some adjustments along the way.

Melcher-Dallas Superintendent Scott Bridges tells KNIA/KRLS News in years past schools have been given, between one to two, two and a half percent for each student that attends school.

Bridges tells KNIA/KRLS News “This year they actually went three percent. Now three percent is great. I would say, I’m registered in saying it’s not enough still. I think they’ve got to do better.”

He added he would like to see the rate increased to four percent because it is getting very competitive to hire teachers because there aren’t as many students going to college to be educators.
