State Representative Brooke Boden held a meeting as part of her Government Oversight Committee about restricting books that have sexually explicit material in schools. Boden said her goal is to help create the process for deciding how that moves forward, whether it is getting rid of the books entirely, or requiring parental approval, among other options. Boden said it is a bureaucratic nightmare, and the process is currently in its early stages.

‘First of all, we are looking at all the books that come into the classroom so we know what’s there. Second of all, what does that look like? Do we need special requests from parents to check them out? Do they actually need to be in the school? I’ve got parents that have come to me that have K-12 kids, one of these books was sitting out on a table, their small child went in and got a nice preview of a book I don’t think most of us want our kids to see. These are things nobody wants to have to talk about, there are a lot of things we have to move through, but making sure our kids are protected from that environment is really important to me.”
