A child has died from injuries suffered after being hit by a truck in Pella Thursday evening.

According to the Pella Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of West 4th Street and Fountain View Drive. A Ford F-150 struck the five-year-old, who had entered the roadway on a sled from a nearby hill.

The child was transported to Pella Regional, but life saving measures attempted by Pella Community Ambulance and Pella Regional Health Center personnel were unsuccessful.

The Pella Police Department is handling the investigation and is being assisted by the Iowa State Patrol.
