The PCM boys basketball team’s season came to an end Friday night, as they fell 67-46 at Class 2A #2 ranked Roland-Story in a game heard live on KNIAKRLS.com, KRLS3.
The Mustangs, who were looking to pick up their first win over the Norsemen in three tries this season, fell behind early and were never able to overcome the deficit. Roland-Story bolted out of the gate to a 22-9 lead with two seconds remaining in the first quarter, before Gavin Van Gorp banked in a buzzer-beating half-court heave to pull PCM within 10. The Norsemen’s lead grew to 41-24 at halftime after they knocked down their own half-court buzzer-beater. PCM scored the first four points of the third quarter, but Roland-Story answered with a 16-8 run to end the period with a 57-36 lead before ultimately earning their ninth straight win in the series and ending the Mustangs’ season.
Sophomore Gavin Van Gorp was PCM’s top scorer in the loss with 15 points, while seniors Grant Van Veen (11) and August Stock (9) combined for 20 points in their final high school game. PCM closes out the season with an 8-15 overall record and graduate three seniors in Van Veen, Stock, and manager Gabe Graber.
