Aiden Stoltz knocked down a three-pointer less than 15 seconds into last night’s boys basketball class 2A substate 6 quarterfinal, and Pella Christian never looked back in a 79-41 victory over Cardinal heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

The Eagles scored the first 11 points as they bolted out to a 17-2 lead, took a 48-20 advantage into halfttime and put the running clock on in the third quarter. On the night, J.D. Boer’s club hit 14 shots from behind the arc.

“I think that’s a good confidence boost for us as well because I do think we’re a team that can shoot the ball really well. At times we’ve been a little bit streaky this season, but hopefully this can propel us forward as we continue to mix in different things. Of course we won’t always see a zone like this, we’ll see different defenses, so we’ll have to be able to stay balanced. But when you can extend the defense with the perimeter shot, that seems to open a lot of things up moving forward.”

Stoltz hit five three-pointers, leading Pella Christian with 17 points. Dane Geetings added 11 and Tysen DeVries scored 10.

Pella Christian is now 13-9 on the season and will play Wilton Tuesday night at Williamsburg in a substate semifinal. The Beavers beat Mid-Prairie 83-61 last night.
