indianola-8

The Indianola girls basketball team had a lead as high as 16 in their regional semifinal matchup against Bondurant-Farrar Saturday evening, but the Indians couldn’t hold on as they fell 58-55 as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Indians had a back and forth first quarter where they took a 14-11 lead, then dominated throughout the second quarter as they outscored the Bluejays 25-15 in the second quarter taking a 35-26 lead at the break. The Indians held the Bluejays to just eight third quarter points, however they scored just four themselves as they found themselves only ahead by five, and Bondurant-Farrar made 9/11 free throws down the stretch to take the lead and seal the win.

Indians head coach Jeff Janssen said after the game the two seniors in the rotation of Emily Naughton and Gillian Smith are two players that embody how he feels Indianola basketball should be looked at, incredibly hard workers who play a team-first style, and are willing to do whatever it takes to win.

Naughton led the Indians with 21 points, and ends a four-year starter career at Indianola with 819 career points. The Indians ended the season with a 10-12 record.
