A pair of Pella High School girls basketball players have earned additional honors for their work in the classroom.

Seniors Kylie Tauke and Eliza Van Zee earned Academic All-State from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association. The IGCA recognizes current seniors that have an ACT of 27 or higher and a GPA of 3.75 or higher. Tauke scored a 32 on the ACT and has a GPA of 4.163, and Van Zee has a 30 ACT score and a 4.084 GPA.

On the court, Kylie is the leading scorer for Pella, averaging 12.5 points per game, while Eliza picks up nearly four rebounds off the bench in the main rotation for the team.

The duo have also been honored by the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association, announced earlier this season; Tauke was an Academic All-State honoree and Van Zee receiving All-District recognition — which features students of all grade levels across Iowa picked through a competitive process.

Both Kylie and Eliza are currently planning to be Iowa State Cyclones this coming fall. While they remain in the hunt for a state basketball appearance Tuesday when they take on Glenwood in the Regional Final, those won’t be their final activities as Pella High students; Tauke was a state track qualifier and All-Conference softball player last year, and Van Zee is a member of the defending Class 3A State Jazz Champions.

The Dutch girls basketball team is in the regional final Tuesday, with coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. on 92.1 KRLS and Pella Dutch Live.
