Five Central College players were named to the 2022-23 Academic All-District® Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve at the varsity level and achieve a 3.50 or better cumulative grade point average (4.00 scale). All-district honorees are now under consideration for CSC Academic All-America® honors.
Named to the women’s squad were guards Kelsea Hurley (senior, Scottsdale, Ariz., Desert Mountain HS) and Hannah Dau (sophomore, Paullina, South O’Brien HS). Tabbed for the men’s squad were forward Kole Tupa (junior, Center Point, Center Point-Urbana HS) and guards Kaleb and Nolan Brand (juniors, Mount Vernon).
Dau carries a 3.70 cumulative grade point average with majors in biology and kinesiology. She averaged 6.0 points per game and led the team in assists with 2.7. Hurley has a 3.54 GPA with majors in political science and psychology. She averaged 13.5 points and 6.5 rebounds while leading Central in 3-point baskets with 2.0. The Dutch closed the season with an 8-17 mark.
Central’s men captured the American Rivers regular season championship and play host to Loras College in a conference tournament semifinal game Thursday. The Dutch are 17-6 overall. Kaleb Brand carries a 3.79 GPA with a business management major. He’s averaging 8.2 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Nolan Brand has a 3.92 GPA with an elementary education major while averaging 4.3 points and 3.5 rebounds. Tupa has a 3.78 GPA with a social science major while averaging 6.8 points and 4.3 rebounds.
This year’s Academic All-America® teams will be announced in March.
