After a thrilling 68-65 overtime victory over Wilton Tuesday, the Pella Christian boys basketball team now turns their attention towards an effort to qualify for their 17th State Tournament in the last 33 years.
A big factor in the Eagles’ win Tuesday night was the experience from a pair of key returning players from last season’s State Tournament semifinal finishing squad. Aiden Stoltz, the lone returning starter from that team a year ago, recorded 21 points on 7 of 14 shooting, a team-high eight rebounds, and four assists. A key bench player for Pella Christian last season, Tysen DeVries posted 22 points on 9 of 15 shooting and four assists. Stoltz said that the experience gained during last year’s tournament run was beneficial in helping the Eagles pull out the overtime win Tuesday night.
“You know, just helping those younger guys through it all and coaching them, giving them tips and pointers on how to handle big moments like that game right there and just to stay calm and confident in yourself.”
