Two members of the Simpson men’s basketball team were named to the American Rivers Conference All-Conference Team, with Easton Darling selected to the first team and Andrew Gibb being tabbed honorable mention.
Both Darling and Gibb are coming off their first seasons with the Storm, after transferring in prior to the school year. Darling and Gibb are the first players to earn all-conference recognition in their first seasons with the program since Tyler Stumbo was named to the honorable mention team in the 2017-18 season.
Darling, a transfer from the University of Central Missouri, made a massive impact on the offensive end for the Storm, earning first-team honors. Darling averaged 16.3 points per game on 33.1 minutes per game, both team-highs for the Storm. Managing shooting splits of 44.2 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from behind the arc, Darling poured in a season-high 29 points in the 88-76 road win at Buena Vista, the most by a Storm player on the year. Darling knocked down six threes in that game, as well as once more in a home victory over Coe. In addition to his elite scoring ability, Darling pulled down 3.4 rebounds per game and dished out two assists per game.
Gibb was named honorable mention after a season in which he averaged 14.7 points per game, second on the team behind Darling, and 6.5 rebounds per game, leading the team. A transfer from Briar Cliff University, Gibb tied for fifth in the conference with his 6.5 rebounds per game and was third in the conference with six defensive rebounds per game. Gibb was also one of the most efficient offensive players in the conference, shooting 51.1 percent from the field, good for ninth in the conference, and 36.2 percent from beyond the arc. Gibb also led the league in free-throw percentage with an astonishing 93.3 percent mark that included a stretch of 61 consecutive free throws made.
