Six local students were able to read written works submitted to the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars groups in Pella at a meeting earlier this week. The American Legion Flag Essay contest winners — who were recognized for their efforts in January, read their essays at the Pella Memorial Building Monday evening.

Additionally, writers who participated in the VFW’s Patriots Pen and Voice of Democracy contests were also honored and read their written works, including James, Julia, and Jacquelyn Lackamp. Pella Middle School winners from the Patriots Pen contest were awarded in December.
