The South Central Conference has released its all-conference wrestling selections for this season and six Knoxville grapplers made 1st, 2nd or honorable mention. On the first team was Luke Spaur. Spaur had another great season that ended at the State meet with a 4th place finish at 138 pounds in class 2A. Spaur also won the South Central Conference championship at 138 pounds and put together a 42-3 record this season. Another first team selection was Chaz Graves, who also was a conference champion at 152 pounds. Graves also made the State Meet rounding out his season with a 29-6 record. The final 1st team selection from Knoxville was Daniel Gorskikh, who wrestled mostly 170 pounds this season and won the conference at that weight, put together a remarkable 43-4 record and also making the State Meet. On the second team was Wayne Johnston, who for the 2nd straight year got to wrestle at Wells Fargo Arena. Johnston ended his senior season with a 30-15 mark. On honorable mention was Trenton Kingery, who made a run to the State Meet and posted a 25-15 record, and Tristen Sinnard was also an honorable mention selection and ended the season at 25-11. Coach Skylar Spaur tells KNIA/KRLS Sports finally winning the conference was a major highlight of the season.

Spaur: “The seniors and the whole wrestling team was excited to win the conference, they came out and wrestlers to their potential and it was pretty exciting.”

The Panthers not only were able to get three champions, but also four runners-up during the meet. Spaur adds there will be several weight classes that they will need to fill for graduation next year, but he sees a lot of younger guys who got mat time this year look to step up for next season.
